Small town country duo Deep Southwest try to secure a spot to perform at the coveted Hawaiian Pizza Festival in rural Chatham-Kent. Along the way they meet a cast of characters that help and hinder their progress to pizza fest glory.
This musical comedy will get you up on your feet dancing and wanting to trade in your shoes for a pair of cowboy boots. March 8th marked the Premier of Deep Southwest produced by local production company Whalen Entertainment and Bell Fibe TV1.
This five part series is available to stream on Fibe TV1 and YouTube. Come see all your favorite people and locations in the series that was filmed exclusively in Chatham-Kent and features a local cast.

biography.

Megan Whalen
Megan Whalen is a writer, producer, and director whose work spans theatre, television, and live performance. She wrote and produced the award-winning Bell Fibe TV1 musical comedy series Deep Southwest and created the immersive theatrical production Trouble at the North Pole.
As a performer, Megan has played lead roles for Mirvish Productions, most notably in the award-winning Andrew Lloyd Webber revival of The Sound of Music. She has headlined symphony performances across Canada and Europe, starred in the Netflix feature film 11 Blocks, and has served as an artistic event planner for red carpet events and movie premieres.
In 2022, Megan received the Talk Is Free Theatre Educational Grant for Digital Theatre, and in 2023 she was a finalist for the Cayle Chernin Award for Theatre Development.
She has also worked as Educational Program Coordinator at the Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts and the Capitol Theatre in Chatham-Kent.

Pat Whalen
Pat Whalen is an award-winning writer, producer, and marketing professional with experience in theatre, film, and live entertainment. He has written, performed, and assistant directed with Second City and Just for Laughs on Spank! The Fifty Shades Parody, which toured across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
As a performer, Pat appeared with the Toronto Operetta Theatre and starred in the Netflix feature film 11 Blocks. As a marketing and production coordinator, he has worked on campaigns for Disney Cruise Line, Discovery, and Sons of Kent Brewing.
Pat co-wrote the immersive theatrical production Trouble at the North Pole and composed the original music for the Bell Fibe TV1 award-winning musical comedy series Deep Southwest. His original song “3 Piece Suit” received an award, and he also wrote two original songs for the feature horror film Fresh Meat.

They both can be seen performing with their classic country band Deep Southwest touring Canada and Italy, as well as creating and directing incredible immersive and experiential productions.
When they’re not performing, writing, and filming new works, Megan can be found dancing around the house and crafting. Pat can be found practicing Jiu Jitsu (he holds a Brown Belt), and they both love hanging out and walking around the pleasant city of Chatham-Kent.
